Veronica entered the local Fed Ex with a
huge smile plastered on her face. It would take every
bit of her social grace training and diplomacy to get
the information she needed in order to locate Dr.
Elkae's Relto.
Bypassing the clerks at the front
desk, she went directly to the office manager's office.
Taking a quick peek at his nametag, she sat on the edge
of his desk, her long leg swinging back and forth and
she said sweetly, "Good morning, Mr. Miller, my name is
Veronica Fairchild and I need a huge favor. Can you help
me?"
The three explorers continued to walk
towards Thietris' office as Speedy rattled off her
findings. "... so many of the art pieces I found in
the hallways were of various looking landscapes, nothing
that can be seen in D'ni here. I am going to assume that
they are of some of the personal ages, since many of the
plants were of abstract colors, such as pink leaves and
purple rivers..." Speedy said. "Or it could be some
sort of new art scheme: changing the natural colors to
some sort of other color orientation," suggested
Grassie. "That is true, but I cannot say for sure
unless I see the extact same landscape somewhere...
possibily in one of the badger books," "Indeed...
now where is Thietris?" asked Dr. Warrell. "Actually,
could we get a bite to eat first? I'm famished!" said
Grassie. "Ok, let's head over to the eggroom," said
Speedy and the others followed her there for a good
breakfast.

"Speedy how on
earth do you eat eggs? Isn't that considered cannibalism
for birds?" asked Dr. Warrell. Speedy looks down at
her scrambled eggs and thinks for a moment. She then
pushes away her plate. "Thanks for ruining my
breakfast!" Speedy pouts. "Seriously, it would be
worse if she had chicken... wouldn't you think?" asked
Grassie as he ate some sausage.

Bizzy sits at his desk, bizzily scratching out plans for
a homemade skeleton stand. He knows the Professor will
want to display the remains of a real live ... real D'ni
at the Institution. Near the link-in spot by the
fountain comes to mind as a good place.
Speedy moans. There's nothing else that
she really can have for breakfast since Dr. Warrell now
made her paranoid of eating anything with eggs in it.
"Oh, don't worry about it, Speedy. There's some
fruit over there that you can have..." Grassie pointed
out. "But I wanted some pancakes,... and I love
pancakes!" Speedy moaned. "Then have them," said
Grassie. "I can't. I'll be a cannibal according to
Dr. Warrell over here! And besides, I was wondering on
why he was making a weird face when I scooped them
up..." Speedy explained. "Well, I've never seen a
bird eat eggs..." Dr. Warrell said. "Blue Jays do!"
Speedy replied. "Oh, well, are you part blue jay
then?" aske Dr. Warrell. Speedy thought for a
moment. "No, I'm part human." "You are?"
"Yeah..." Speedy said. "Oh... fine... I didn't
know that... well... go have the eggs then," Dr. Warrell
said. "Thank you!" Speedy said as she grabbed her
plate back and began to eat her eggs. She stopped eating
after one bite. "What now?" moaned Grassie. "The
eggs got cold..."

Veronica and Mr. Miller arrived on
Elkae's Relto. She thanked him for his assistance and
then waved him away, promising to call as soon as she
was able. "In your dreams." Is what she was
thinking.
Standing on the island and looking out
over the mist, Veronica said, "Incredible...Fed Ex
really does stand by their motto, "Overnight or
overseas, across borders or across town, you can
absolutely, positively count on today's FedEx to deliver
transporation and information solutions—and so much
more."

When the link had ended, the linking
sound seemed to continue, almost as though Grizz'z link
had merged into another link. Grizz found himself in a
small, barren rock room with no door. There were holes
in the walls and ceiling through which he could feel
drafts. At least the air was moving. He looked around in
the dim greenish light, looking for its source. It
wasn't apparent where the light came from. On the single
free standing stone near the wall was a stack of...could
it be? Yes!! Five brand new packages of Fig Newtons! At
least he wouldn't starve. On the floor by the stone was
a pile of blankets. He felt his way around the wall in
the dim light. In one dark corner he found a narrow
opening, not obvious before. He went in. There was a low
rock shelf with a hole in it, a stream of water coming
from one wall, almost like a shower, and draining away
through a crack in the floor.
"Hmmm," he
thought. "All the comforts of home."
He went back
into the larger room. On the wall opposite the bedding
and standing stone was a single piece of wall art, somehow reminiscent of Eder Kemo.
Other than that there was nothing, and no indication of
why he was here, nor how long he would be
here.
Being a person of patience (for the most
part) Grizz opened a package of Fig Newtons, and
thoughtfully munched one as he wondered what Veronica's
reaction to his disappearance would be, and if she would
have any trouble carrying out his
instructions.

After escaping his sleeping bag, drying
his tent and convincing himself that the Algae was
responsible for the events of the previous evening; FM
obtained his fireflies, and headed to
Gahreesen.
He walked out to the rotating
platforms, where he looked over at the waterfalls which
were quite some distance away. He reached into his
backpack and drew out an umbrella.
After
negotiating wind currents and getting over to the
waterfalls, and getting a test tube full of water, he
headed back to check on his tests.
So far his
tests hadn't revealed much, except that there were
traces of the same unknown chemical located in the
Hoods, Kemo and Gira. It was now a question of whether
they all matched up, and if he could find something that
would repel the chemical. It was only a matter of
time...
Not wanting to stay in one place for too
long (he had learned the dangers of the Algae on Kemo),
FM headed almost straight away to Kadish, only to find
that somehow all of the puzzles had reset themselves,
and so to get some of the purple mist, he would have to
go through the first few puzzles again...This was going
to take a
while..

Speedy went up to get some more food
since her little eggless period resulted in her having
cold food. Meanwhile, Dr. Warrell pulled out the
mushroom journal. "Do you want to start looking through
this? It could be awhile until we find the professor
again," he asked Grassie. "Sure, I see no harm in
that..." Grassie said as Dr. Warrell opened the
journal. ~At last, I have finally moved into
this mansion. It feels great to live in such a grand
house on my own. I feel responsible, mature, grown-up...
but in another aspect, I feel somewhat insecure at the
moment. This house is so big, it just feels empty.
Mother told me to move in when I get married, so it
would not seem so lonely. Of course, my stubbornness
would not listen. But I see now how she is right. At
least Mother and Father only live three streets away, so
if I get too lonely, I could visit them... what am I
thinking! I am too grown up to go back and visit my
parents! If anything, I will create myself a place for
me to visit if I am ever 'lonely'. Since I am of the
Guild of Writers, I have the liberty to write my own
ages. I will work on that in the morning. I need to come
up with an idea first on what kind of age I desire to
write...
"Well, it does indeed sound like a
rebel..." commented Dr. Warrell. "So it was a Guild
Writer house we were in? Fascinating! This could help us
on many levels..." replied Grassie. "Hey, what are
you guys doing?" asked Speedy, carrying a plate of
pancakes. "Checking out the mushroom journal. Come
and listen," said Grassie as they continued to
read.

Mushroom journal continued
~The sleep last night did not give me any
ideas. If anything it only feels like in this house that
there are millions of eyes watching me… I better check
and see if there are any rodents in this house.
Hopefully, there aren’t any mice… ~Mother saw the
house today for the first time since I moved in. She
thinks I need color around, like painting with bright
colors and some plants. But Mother knows that if I try
to care for a plant, it would quickly die on me. The
plant idea though does sound appealing… ~ I have an
idea for an age! It would be a plant paradise, like a
jungle. Not an island though. During the day, the
sunlight streams in, making the flowers open, the birds
fly, and some of the creatures about in the trees… while
at night, give it the mysterious aura that this mansion
is filled with during the night! Now the main question
is to have people living in here… it could be fine
company to talk to them, but as the Guild says, we
should not make Ages where we are Gods. We are only
observers. I will not try to do that, if I do add in
people. But in the art of writing, you cannot control
what people think or do when the unexplained
happens. ~Writing has become a slow process.
Neighbors keep on inviting me to various functions,
making my time little for writing. But I believe I am
about halfway complete… ~Writing is done! The image
is clear, and it looks like what I have envisioned. Now
for the linking book home… ~Linking book home is
complete. I’m going to link to my age, which I am going
to call Amazanai, tonight. I will bring this with
me. ~This world has turned out better than I have
planned. I can definitely see this world, or at least
some the plants anyways, living in my mansion. I feel
like I am a part of this world here… maybe it was a good
thing that I didn’t add in people, since this place is
too delicate for the likes of people. I think I will add
in one human touch though; a getaway house. Up in one of
these trees. Such as a summer study place, so if I need
some quiet from the busy streets of the D’ni, I will be
able to get away and work in the nice quietness of here.
I will keep this journal here so I could possibly work
on other projects back at home.
"Ooo! I
want to see this place now!" Speedy said. "I sounds like
a good place to fly through," "Well, let's finish the
journal first, so can make sure that there aren't any
dangers going in there. Besides, I want to know how the
mushrooms get into this, let alone the badgers..."
Grassie commented. "Badger badger badger badger..."
Dr. Warrell began to chant. "STOP IT!" shouted both
Grassie and Speedy as they whacked Dr. Warrell in the
head. "Oh thanks, I needed that," he said as he
rubbed his head.
